ERR24 – Accumulative Running Time Reached

What this means

ERR24 indicates that the VFD has reached a user-defined accumulated running time limit.

In simple terms, the VFD is tracking how long the spindle has actually been running (not just powered on), and a preset runtime threshold has been reached. When that threshold is met, the VFD triggers ERR24.

This is not a failure and does not indicate damage or abnormal operation.

Why This Happens

Many VFDs include runtime tracking features used for:

  • Maintenance scheduling

  • Service reminders

  • Usage tracking

ERR24 is triggered when the accumulated spindle runtime reaches the value set by parameter P5.1.00.

This differs from ERR23, which tracks total power-on time. ERR24 only counts time when the spindle is actively running.

Most Common Causes We See

1. Maintenance reminder threshold reached (most common)

ERR24 is often intentionally configured to:

  • Notify users of maintenance intervals

  • Track bearing or coolant service schedules

The VFD is behaving exactly as configured.

2. Feature enabled unintentionally

In some setups:

  • Runtime tracking was enabled during initial configuration

  • Parameters were copied from another machine

  • Default values were not cleared

Users may not realize the runtime limit was active.

3. High spindle usage

Machines that:

  • Run long jobs

  • Operate frequently

  • Stay in production workflows

Will naturally reach the accumulated runtime threshold sooner.

What to Check First

Step 1: Verify the accumulated runtime limit

Check:

  • P5.1.00 – Accumulative running time limit

This value determines when ERR24 will trigger.

Step 2: Decide whether this feature is useful

Ask:

  • Do you want runtime-based maintenance reminders?

  • Is this feature relevant to your workflow?

For many CNC users, this is optional.

Step 3: Clear or reset the runtime record

If maintenance has been completed or the reminder is not needed:

  • Use the parameter initialization function to clear the accumulated runtime record

  • Reset the VFD

This will clear ERR24.

What ERR24 Is Not

  • Not a spindle motor fault

  • Not an electrical or wiring issue

  • Not a cutting load problem

  • Not a controller or software issue

ERR24 is a time-based notification, not a fault condition.

Recommended Action for CNC Use

Most CNC users:

  • Reset this timer when ERR24 appears

  • Or disable the accumulated runtime fault entirely

This prevents unnecessary interruptions during normal operation.

Summary

ERR24 means the VFD has reached a preset accumulated spindle runtime limit.

Most common causes:

  • Maintenance reminder threshold reached

  • Feature enabled unintentionally

This is informational, not a failure.
Clearing or resetting the runtime record resolves the issue.
