Programming Tool Setter for ATC

Tool Setter Programming for Masso

 

Note: It is not a direct plug and play for the Onefinity Elite Series. See Tool-Setter Inlet - PwnCNC for wiring instructions. 

 

First thing you'll want to do is get the machine coordinates of where you want the machine to go for the tool setters location and take note of the XY and Z with the longest bit installed and floating about 1/4" (~6mm), as well as where you want it to go for the tool change. 

 

Then go to the F1 screen and select Auto Tool Zero on the left side. 

 

"Enable auto tool zero": Select the checkbox to enable to the tool setter.   

 

"Only Auto Tool Zero When Manually Requested": This will allow you to skip the tool setter logic whenever the machine is homed or after bit changes. Leave this unchecked for a work around to this known issue given it bottoms out before it reaches, however if you do not want it to cycle upon homing and after tool changes you will need to check the box. Doing this you can only use it from the F4 screen (see the last step of these instructions)

Tool Setter XY location and Enable: This is how you would set the position of the Tool Setter within your CNC footprint. 

 

"Safe Z Distance to Tool Setter": This will allow you to create a rapid movement so you don't have to have it slow creep in a distance that you wouldn't use.

Pro Tip: Install your longest bit, and hover over the tool setter about 1/4" (~6mm) and look at your machine coords for the Z and you'll get what this number should be. 

 

"Tool Zero Feed rate": How fast do you want it to probe towards your tool setter. I found that 30ipm is a happy medium for me where it doesn't take forever, but isn't too fast for comfort. 

 

 

Thats it, your tool setter is programmed! 

 

In order for it to fit in your workflow though, you will need to update your tool library, as well as your cad tool library, for that refer to this:

After your tools are numbered on the F4 Screen, you can save your gcode with multiple toolpaths as 1 file, and upon power up, and homing it will proceed to the tool setter *if you unchecked the only auto tool zero*. Touch off.

Within the individual tools you can have them all loaded into your collets, and double tap the tool itself, and if you have tool setter enabled, and only auto tool zero when manually requested there should be a button that says zero tool. Tapping that is how you would preload your bit offsets. 

 

 

You'll load your gcode, get XYZ zero with the current bit installed (recommend endmill and not anything of an abnormal shape), even if it's not the first one you intend on using. Then hit start, and it'll compare what is loaded vs what is commanded for your first tool. Then your machine will proceed to your tool change to change bits *if necessary*, then it will go over to the tool setter location *if only auto tool zero when manually requested*. Touch off. Then proceed to the loaded gcode and your making glitter.
