Drop Arm Configuration Installation (stepper base, arm, drop arm, attachment)

Unlike the UHC Drop Arm article, this is more of a practical set of instructions in example configurations. 

In this example there is a Stepper Base, Std Arm, Std Drop Arm and Tube Attachment

 

 

Here is an exploded view of how all the hardware comes together:

 

To break this up, here we'll start from the stepper base, and work through to the tube attachment

 

First the Nema 23 Coupler. *The gray pieces that are down are spacers. You will receive (4) of them, (2) Tall (2) Short. These are to be used as standoffs for your motor mount, if necessary. 

After that slide the screws into the holes. The heads should be flush, and set aside. 

Next is prepping the receiving end of the Arm. The length of the arm is irrelevant as the instructions are the same for all the Arms. 

Take the 2 square nuts and feed them in the slots from the bottom. 

 

 

Next Bring the Base over, and using the enclosed m5x20 screws attach them tightening them down onto the square m5 nuts previously installed in the arm. 

 

 

 

Next onto the drop arm:

Here is a breakdown of how that component will go. 

The first thing you want to do is attach the top part to bottom part, and use the M5x30 screws to secure them together, careful not to strip it out. The head just needs to be flush. 

 

Next we want to grab the arm again:

 

Slide the nut in from the bottom

 

Bring it all together with the Drop Arm. 

 

Install the screws in the threaded inserts and previously dropped in square nut. 

Slide the nut in from the bottom of the drop arm, and slide the attachment into place. 

 

The M5x14 screw goes in the claw of the attachment, and M5x20 screws go into from either side. 

 

this is the completed drop arm. From here you would attach it to your Nema23 stepper motor removing the 2 screws in the rear of motor mount and using longer screws depending on if you went with the tall or short standoffs (or none if clearance is not an issue). The short are flush to the bottom of the stepper mount and the tall provide a standoff as situation dictates.
